The templates were designed to be as useful as possible to as many private practices as possible. However, there are situations where you should not use these templates (at least in their most basic template form).

The two most notable reasons these templates may not work are if you are subject to California’s CCPA or the European Union’s GDPR. However, most private practices in the United States are probably not subject to those laws. Here’s why:

• The CCPA applies to businesses that serve California residents, but only if the business meets one or more of these requirements: (1) the business has at least $25 million or more in annual revenue, (2) the business collects personal data from at least 50,000 users, or (3) the business earns at least half of its revenue from the sale of personal data. Accordingly, most private practices are likely not subject to the CCPA.
• The GDPR applies to website operators in the EU, and to companies that specifically target users in the EU (this is a very generalized summary of the law’s scope). And like above, most private practices in the United States are likely not subject to the GDPR due to the scope of the law.

Although the templates were designed to be as useful as possible to as many private practices as possible, you may need to expand on the default language in the templates. This is primarily true if your website allows users to upload content or if you offer any paid services on your website (for example, subscriptions, courses, paid content, etc.). In those situations, you will likely need to add provisions to the terms and policies outlining the rights and obligations of you and the users. The templates include the core language necessary for an informational website, but not language for those kinds of premium services which are offered by some website operators.
